CR workshop on content and technology

Maraa, along with Nomad India, organized a workshop on debunking myths on content and technology of and for community radio. The workshop was held in Dahanu, about 3 hours from Bombay. About 25 people from all over India participated in this workshop. Nomad India explained the technology involved in community radio while Maraa explained various aspects of programming.

In addition to all this, the workshop also had interesting discussions on Free and Open Source software, sustainability for community radio stations, as well as sessions of policy and history of CR movement in India.

Functional radio stations like Radio Active Community Radio station, from Bangalore as well as potentials like Tamil Nadu Agricultural University attended the workshop. Among the potential NGOs, MYRADA and The Energy Resources Institute attended the workshop.

People who are essentially non-technologists, eventually built a one watt transmitter from scratch by the last day of the workshop. On the content side, participants had created their own jingle, their own interviews, recorded their own songs and songs from communities in nearby villages.
