Ekta Mittal is a graduate from a Social Communication Media Course in Mumbai. She joined VOICES, a media advocacy group in Bangalore to bring out a publication on Community Media and stuck on there a little more than two years. She had the opportunity to get hands on experience with community radio, video and theatre, both in Bangalore and rural Karnataka. She is one of the founding members of Masrah , an eight year old theatre group. She is one of the founding members of Maraa and works here full time. Studying art, media and culture, meeting people, writing and photography are her keen interests.
Ram is a graduate from the Manipal Institute of Communications (MIC) in IT and Media Studies. Started his career in ethnographic research at a community radio station, called Namma Dhwani, working with media advocacy group called VOICES. Currently engaged in research and advocacy for media policy and spectrum reform, as well as sporadic efforts in community radio – assessment, sustainability, and new aesthetics for content development. He is a member of Community Radio Forum (CRF), as well as World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC). He is also a consultant for UNESCO, Ford Foundation, and Global Partners and Associates.
Deepak is a researcher, performer and media practitioner, currently with Maraa, also doubling up as faculty at Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore. After a Bachelors degree in environmental sciences and a Masters degree in biology, Deepak’s interests in psycho-social and cultural human development have taken him on a quest for answers outside the framework of natural and life sciences. Deepak is at the moment interested in connections between citizenship and art practice and will be working towards fostering better local linkages and networks between art and media practitioners, activists, communities and policy consortia.
With a background in English literature, Monica studied Social Communications Media at the Sophia Polytechnic in Mumbai. She has worked as an annotator for PAD.MA. She is currently interested in community radio, media policy, spectrum reform, creative practices as legitimate forms of knowledge production, creative practices in times of conflict and alternative narratives-imaginations of the city.
Francesca Recchia is an independent researcher and lecturer. She is interested in the relations between social and creative practices, cultural identities and transformation of places. Her work focuses on the geo-political dimension of cultural processes and is constructed on a strong interdisciplinary ground intersecting the fields of Social, Postcolonial, Visual and Urban Studies. She has been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Bartlett School of Planning, University of London, a PhD in Cultural Studies at the Oriental Institute in Naples and a MA in Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Kartikeya is a recent graduate of the Information Science and Technology program at Penn State. Previously, he completed a M.S. in Information Systems and Operations Management from the University of Florida, and an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Trichy. His current interests lie in the domains of ICTs for development, development policy and narrative studies.
