The performance was in memory of Mahasweta Devi, who passed away in 2016.We remember Mahashweta Devi as a fiction writer, who wrote about a people whom she lived amongst, in the fringes. About pathos and rage, passion and freedom. She is remembered variously- a feminist, a social historian, a voice for the oppressed- unflinching in her commitment and quest for social justice.
The performance is based on Mahasweta Devi’s story ‘Draupadi’,one that still finds resonance and urgent relevance given the context of state sponsored violence and acquisition today. The script has been written and will be performed by Pritham Chakravarty,a theatre practitioner, researcher, translator and teacher.
